  1. Thank you Publius and Mr. Keyes for this discussion.

    Aside from the content, what I found refreshing were the moments of Publius’ appropriate silence.

    When Publius was asked to respond to something she had not studied, or when she didn’t understand the premise, or when she did not have an intelligent response, she either admitted she hadn’t read the matter, or that she didn’t understand, or she kept silent altogether.

    Wonderful.

    She had plenty to say, mind you, but her saying nothing when there was nothing to say, was really nice to hear :]

      • I managed to get on C-Span this morning regarding every elected representative in the United States is violating their oath of office for not protecting and defending the Constitution’s Article IV Section 4 Clause 2.

        Why am I the only person, other than Colonel Allen West, who speaks about this on national TV. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen Allen West since he last spoke about Article IV section 4 just before Christmas last.

        • Congratulations for getting on TV! Keep talking about Article IV, Sec. 4, US Constitution. You are right, more people need to be using Article IV, Sec. 4 in response to the unrestricted invasion of our Country by third world peoples.

          • Yes, aren’t the seven words in Article IV Section 4 clause 2 “protect each of them against invasion” and the five words in the Preamble “provide for the common defence” our existential reason for being united? If so, shouldn’t that be a priority above everything else?

          • One of the few reasons we united was to provide for the common defense & to protect each of the States from invasion.

            If more Americans knew that and understood it and embraced it, they’d elect to office people who know it and would obey it.
            But no more than a handful of people in our entire Country seem to know it.

            Americans of today are an ignorant, lazy, and conceited bunch of people. They are so in love with their own opinions – and are too stupid to realize that they have been conditioned to hold the opinions they love so much.

    • Larry Arnn is awfully tight with Mark Levin who is selling us out for an Article V convention. Levin pretends to be a “conservative”, but his proposed “liberty Amendments” vastly increase the powers of the federal government – see my paper on Mark levin’s “liberty Amendments”.

      so I don’t trust Hillsdale or Larry Arnn any more.

        • I don’t know whether Larry Arnn now supports an Article V convention. But he praises Mark Levin to the skies [and I never saw a bigger fake “conservative” than Mark Levin]; and I understand that Mark Meckler’s daughter is a student at Hillsdale. The Koch Brothers have billions of dollars and they are spending tons of it to get an Article V convention. Perhaps you could research Hillsdale’s funding and see if they are getting Koch money.

          Many Americans will do anything if they are paid enough. I wondered why The Federalist Society would never publish any of my papers or other peoples’ papers against an Art. V convention; but they published Rob Natelson’s papers in support of a Convention. Then I found out that The Federalist Society’s biggest donor is … the Kochs.

          So we will see if Americans are so venal that they will sell out this Country to the Oligarchs. Some of them clearly are that venal.

    Thank You. I saw your post with the flyer about Liberty Fest back in april.
    It was a shock to see Dr. Keyes with a MAGA hat on a head next to him.
    Alan once had interest in re-defining MAGA as Make America God’s Again.
    I was Never Trump and would like to hear his words to the Trump herd.
    Love hearing from you, Alan Keyes, Tom Hoefling and Frank Gaffney.
    Sad, not finding a record of the event. Please share it if you find one.

      • Yes, I too raised my eyebrows over that. It would be great to “Make America’s GOD’s Again“, as I believe Alan Keyes did suggest some time ago; but I wouldn’t refer to Trump supporters in a disparaging manner. Trump has done some things right, and Alan Keyes has applauded him for that. But I’ve been fussing at Trump for his unconstitutional position on gun control and his signing the deadly USMCA Treaty. I don’t think anyone here would prefer Hillary!

  5. Good!! Good!! Good!!

    I hope the next time he brings up the interest of the public in constitutional literacy, that you mention that there are now myriads of folks attending educational events on the Constitution which did not exist 15 years ago.

    The bright outlook is that folks like Krisanne Hall are reaching 300 folks at a lick. Hillsdale reaches a ton of folks besides their students with the on-line classes. Home schools classes on the Constitution are on the rise. Tenth Amendment Center does pod-casts every day. Your papers have educated thousands who can’t unsee what you’ve written and are being used as tools to educate all over the country.

    Our individual efforts are just a drop in the bucket, but when put together, there is an enormous amount of constitutional educational effort getting out there; and, in casual conversation today, it is not at all unusual that the subject of the Constitution comes up. Fifteen years ago, it was never part of everyday discussion. Today it is.

    Our next hurdle besides the educational hurdle is to get folks to actually be active with what they have learned!! To soak it in is one thing; doing nothing is a waste of good time.

    I am so glad he is going to continue having you on. Good stuff!!!

      • Ditto me on Bob’s words of praise. As for doing something, this morning I spoke to nearly 4 dozen Bible activist men and women, some of them preachers, about getting the Bible back into public schools.

        I enumerated 1) that Congress passing laws on the study of the Bible is not an enumerated power of the federal government, 2) Congress is specifically forbidden to make laws regarding an establishment of religion or interfering with the free exercise thereof, 3) the Supreme Court can issue opinions only on the items listed in Article III and Article VI items in pursuance of the Constitution and 4) that are founding colonies were particularly jealous of their own denomination of Christianity I did not want any interference of their religious practices from other states or their Union.

        Our Tyler TISD school board will be having a conference August 12th and 13th specifically about the limitations of teaching the Bible as an elective in Texas government high schools.

        The conference will be held at Green Acres Baptist Church and I’d love to have some backup explaining the constitutionality of teaching the Bible at all grade levels in Texas government schools.

          The bottom line is this: The States are perfectly free to teach our Bible in the public schools in their States. The US Supreme Court’s opinions which pretend to prohibit Christian prayers, Bible reading, the posting of the 10 Commandments, Christmas manger scenes, etc. in the public schools and in the public square, are totally unconstitutional. If the State Legislatures had had any men in them, they would have been nullifying these unconstitutional US Supreme Court opinions starting in 1962. If State Legislatures had manned up and refused to comply with these idiotic & grossly unconstitutional US Supreme Court opinions, we would have nipped much evil in the bud.

          Read the linked paper and tell me if you think I need to spell it out more clearly for the Texas legislators, etc.

          I need to correct a few things in your comments about federal courts’ jurisdiction to hear cases – but I’ll do it later.

  9. Great discussion. So I decided to test my research abilities to see if you come to the same conclusions!

    In regard to the 2/3rd idea for impeaching the President, and simple majority for other offices, I believe Federalist No. 66 supports Mr. Keyes idea. In that the Senate power to “convict” impeachment is “..drawn from the agency they are to have in the appointments to office.” If that is where the power is drawn from, and they don’t need 2/3rd for Presidential appointments, it’s logical they don’t need 2/3rd for impeachment of other officers except in regard to the President.

    The colon in Art.1, section 3 “When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present,” and the independent clause after it, is expanding upon, or illustrating, the preceding independent clause.

    • You and Alan are probably right – I want to search Madison’s Journal of the Federal Convention of 1787 and see if this is discussed.

      My hesitation is based on the term, “no Person” – which makes me think a 2/3 vote is needed for all convictions. Why doesn’t it say, “and no President shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds…” ?

      So until I find a discussion of this from an original source document written around the time of our Framing, I’m classifying this as an “open question” in my mind – while bearing in mind that persons whom I greatly respect have analyzed the sentence the way you and Alan have.

      • I agree there are principles that need to be established/enforced. That being said, does awakening the people to their rights and duties as militia members necessarily mean war? Couldn’t the mere fact they are stating they are no longer tolerating this unconstitutional system we are operating under enough to get them back on the Constitutional track?

        • Certainly! As I have pointed out before, in Federalist No. 46 James Madison shows that the ultimate purpose of the Militia of the Several States is to protect the States and the People from a usurpatious federal government.

          But Americans must learn & understand our Declaration of Independence and Constitution before they are qualified to fight in a Civil War. Otherwise, it’s just one ignorant side against another ignorant side. And no good will come of that. Just Death, Misery, and Destruction.

          What was unique about our revolution of 1776 against the British Monarchy was that our side was led by PRINCIPLED MEN. But today, we don’t have many people who understand the PRINCIPLES on which our Declaration and Constitution are based – and none of them are in positions of power. For a long time, Americans have been electing tyrants, frauds and ignoramuses to office. And they refuse to learn our two Founding documents – they’d rather go with their own opinions on what government should do. And they want the unconstitutional handouts from the federal government THEY are getting.
